The First International Children Animated Film Workhop

“Golden Snail 1997.”

The First International Children Workshop of Animated Film (ICWAF), was held in year 97. with around 70 participants from Spain, Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia. At this workshop we marked and celebrated 10th year anniversary of existence and successful work. For the first time in their lives, our guests from Spain had that chance to feel and see the snow. During ten days at the workshop a few animated films were made, but friendships are the thing that stays forever. Pencho Kunchev, ASIFA Bulgaria president, worked with a group of children animated film in cut-out technique.Vera Vlajic, animator from Belgrade, worked on animated film in drawing technique, Marija Bliznakovski and Seta Velickovic workeed in clay technique. Leader of the workshop was Miroslav Simonovic. Manifestation was under the patronage by the city of Vranje.

The Second International Children Animated Film Workhop

“Golden Snail 2000.”

The Second ICWAF was held in year 2000. with guests from Romania, Croatia , Bulgaria and many cities from Serbia. Robi Engler, an animator from Switzerland, worked with a group of children on animated film in sand technique. Borivoj Bordo Dovnikovic, animator from Croatia, worked on animated film in drawing technique, Pencho Kunchev , animator from Bulgaria, worked with group of children animated film in clay technique. Around 40 participants were participated.. Leader of the the second ICWAF was Miroslav Simonovic. Manifestation was under the patronage by UNICEF’s office in Belgrade.

The Third International Children Animated Film Workhop

“Golden Snail 2002.”

The Third ICWAF was held in year 2002. with around 65 participants from Egypt, Japan , Macedonia, Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia. At this workshop we enriched the program with representing the national food, customs and costumes. Sayoko Kinoshita from Japan, Hiroshima festival president and president of AWG, worked with a group of children in pixilation technique. Borivoj Bordo Dovnikovic, who is by the second time in Serbia, now with his wife Vesna Dovnikovic (general secretary of ASIFA), worked with a group of children animated film in drawing technique. Pencho Kunchev was the leader for the clay group. The leader of the third ICWAF was Miroslav Simonovic. Manifestation was under the patronage of Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia and city of Vranje.

The Forth International Children Animated Film Workhop

“Golden Snail 2004.”

The Forth ICWAF was held in year 2004. Around 60 participants were present at the workshop from Mexico, Sweden, Italy, Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia. Program was enriched by daily reports from children TV studio, which were broadcasted on the local TV station. Pencho Kunchev worked animated film in drawing technique, Blagoje Buca Lupa, animator from Belgrade, was working with the group of children animated film in technique – scratching on a film tape. Nikola Majdak, proffesor from Belgrade, worked with a group of children animated-feature film colored in aquarel. Miomir Rajicevic, media center director from Belgrade, worked with a group of children TV reports at children’s TV studio, which was innovation at this workshop. Leader of the forth ICWAF was Miroslav Miki Simonovic. The workshop was under the patronge by Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia and city of Vranje.

The Fifth International Children Animated Film Workhop
“Golden Snail 2006.”

The Fifth ICWAF was held in year 2006. with participants from Slovenia, Izrael, Montreal, Macedonia, France, Serb Republic and Serbia. Darko Markovic from Macedonia had held retrospective of his animated films. At this workshop a three films in three different techniques were made on the subject “life of Nikola Tesla”. Official photographer at the ICWAF was young photographer from Bachko-Petrovo village, Beretka Shandor. Vlada Stanic, an animator from Belgrade, worked with group of children an animated film in drawing technique. Miroslav Djeric from Vranje was a leader of the group for cut-out technique, Nela Simonovic, Marija Bliznakovski and Gorica Antic from Vranje were leaders of group for clay. At the workshop were around 60 participants. Leader of the ICWAF was Miroslav Simonovic. The manifestation was under the patronage by Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia and the city of Vranje.

The Sixth International Children Animated Film Workhop

“Golden Snail 2008.”

The Sixth ICWAF 2008. – 70 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, USA, Macedonia and Serbia. US embassy in Belgrade made possible that Ed Desroches from Colorado could come to Serbia. ICWAF guests were Vesna and Bordo Dovnikovic from Croatia, proffesor Nikola Majdak, president of ASIFA Serbia, Miodrag Novakovic, dramaturge from Belgrade. Leaders of the groups were: Ed Desroches worked with group of children animated film in cut-out technique. Vladimir Stanic from Belgrade worked with group of children animated film in drawing technique. Miroslav Djeric from Vranje worked with group of children an animated film in clay technique. Leader of the sixth ICWAF was Miroslav Simonovic. The manifestation was under the patronage by Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia and the city of Vranje.

The Seventh International Children Animated Film Workhop

“Golden Snail 2010.”

The Seventh ICWAF was held on August 2010. with more than 60 participants from Ukraine, Bosnia and Hezegovina, Bulgaria and Serbia. Three films were made: drawing on paper – leader of the group was Miroslav Simonovic, Miroslav Djeric was the leader of the group for clay and leader of the group for cut-out was Pencho Kunchev. Guests of the workshop were: Borivoj Dovnikovic from Croatia, animator, charicaturist, illustrator and graphic designer; Nikola Majdak, ASIFA Serbia president; Pajic Slobodan CENTAF Cacak; Dragan Marjanovic, journalist and publicist from Mostar; Goran Celicanin, charicaturist; Jurinko Rajic, director of NAFF festival in Neum, B&H; Sveta Strahinic, producer from Belgrade; Jovan Markovic, dramaturge, vice-president of International Festival “Golden Knight” Russia; Elena Barzova, actress and professor at GIK Moscow University, Russia; Leader of the 7.ICWAF was Miroslav Djeric; Manifestation was under the patronage of Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia and City of Vranje.

The Eighth International Children Animated Film Workhop

“Golden Snail 2011.”

The Eigth ICWAF 2011. and the second world children animated film festival, at which were 58 participants and 50 films in both categories. Three animated films and two documentary films were made and as an innovation at our workshop – graffiti “Youth are the Law” was drawn.

The Ninth International Children Animated Film Workhop

“Golden Snail 2012.”

The Ninth ICWAF 2012. – International Children Animated Film Workshop. In scope of manifestation “Golden Snail” the ninth international children animated film workshop, an exhibit and three film projections were held. Workshop was held from 20 – 26 August and three animated films and one documentary film were made in three different techniques “13 Snails” (scratching on a film tape), “Kate and Pery” (Cut-out), “9,5 minutes” (documentary film). Children from Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and USA had the chance to, with their mentors: Vicenzo Gioanola from Italy, Pencho Kunchev from Bulgaria and Sasha Lortek from Serbia, participate in films realization.

The Tenth International Children Animated Film Workhop

“Golden Snail 2014.”

The Tenth ICWAF 2014. – Jubilee 10th International Children Animated Film Workshop was held from 22. – 28.08.2014. Workshop participants from seven countries (seventy participants from Italy, Bulgaria, Israel, Croatia, USA, Macedonia and Serbia) had realized four animated films (“X” in pixilation technique, ”Flying Bussineses” in cut-out technique, “Ten” in clay technique and “Graffit” in pixilation technique) and one documentary film. All participants had the chance to present their country, city, school, culture.

The Eleventh International Children Workshop of Animated Film

“Golden Snail 2016”

The Eleventh International Children Workshop of Animated Film was held from 22. to 26. August 2016. with participants from many countries. Participants of the workshop from Bulgaria, Russia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Serbia have made three films on the topic “Music of Vranje“. The event was held under the auspices of the city of Vranje and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia. On the last day of the Golden Snail, a picnic was organized for all participants and guests of the workshop.

The Twelfth International Children Workshop of Animated Film

“Golden Snail 2018.”

Twelfth ICWAF 2018. International Children Workshop of Animated Film “Golden Snail” was held from 09. to 15. August 2018. under the auspices of the city of Vranje and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia. Guests at the workshop arrived from various parts of the world: Israel, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Macedonia, Italy, Ukraine and several cities of Serbia.

Children – participants, 40 of them, were divided into three groups, and each group worked on one animated film. One group was led by the Italian animator Rafaela Traniello. Her group worked on a combination of several different techniques and made a film called “Blue Snail”. The leaders of the second group were animators from Israel, Max Epstein and Karina Hananeia. They also combined several techniques and made the film “Wow Museum”. The third group was led by Anastasia Sia Titova, an animator from Ukraine. And this film was made with a combination of several techniques. She devoted this film to a recently tragically deceased animator and friend from Israel, Vasil Sribny. The film title isFlight“.

The watchful eye of the cameraman followed every part of the workshop, and thanks to him, he recorded a documentary film that conjures up the atmosphere during the workshop. But, we also did two newsletters about all the events at the workshop, from the opening ceremony, through the reception by the mayor, city sightseeing, group work, presentations of guests – schools, clubs and studios…

The aim of the workshop is to inform, motivate and encourage children and young people to engage in animated films. Over the years, they have managed to join the network and connect internationally. It is a festival with a tradition that has done a lot to strengthen and revitalize interest in creative expression in Vranje.
